Breathe

I hold my breath . It feels like I might never let it go. “Breathe” I have to tell my self over and over again. Why is such a simple task sometimes so very hard. Alright now do the million other things she is telling you to do. “Do it now!!”. Pull your self together breathe ok. Breathe again. Good. Try again. You can do it.. I know you can. Concentrate. There you go. Tell your horse what a wonderful horse she is tell her how much you appreciate her, but do it quickly and don’t break your concentration. Good. She already knows how much you love her but it never hurts to say thank you again does it. Alright lets try the jump again. Think all the way. That's right collect, collect, energy don’t forget to give. “Ooops!!” don’t worry thank your horse tell her you are trying. “Breathe”. Alright here we go again this time think of a strong lower leg. 3,2,1, jump 1,2,3. “Ahhh that was nice”. I hear the these words coming from my riding instructor's lips and a warm happiness bubbles all the way up to my face making even my nose tingle a little. “Yes that was nice” I allow myself a little pat on the back and continue. Alright lets make the next one even better. 3,2,1, jump 1,2,3. My horse gives a little buck “yippee” I hear her say. “This is fun” There are sparks in our eyes as we soar (not quite as gracefully over the next jump). “Don’t get cocky” a little voice whispers into my ear. “Shush” I tell it. This is fun.

What Makes You Horse Crazy ???

When you are born you enter the world and everything is new. I think you probably know if you re horse crazy the first time you see a horse. You can't get enough of them and you know that you will do anything just to be near them. Even if it means mucking out stalls for three hours every day just so you can have a half hour lesson once a week. But you don't mind because it was so amazing to ride even for just a half hour, and every waking moment you are thinking of when you can ride next.

Once you have mucked about 526,266,666,895,256.25 stalls you have probably ridden enough times to be a pretty good rider and people start to want you to ride their horses.

By this time maybe just maybe your parents notice that you aren't going to give up this horse thing and they decide to make your wildest dream come true and buy you a horse...

So pretty much when you've been bitten by the the horse crazy bug your love for horses never ever ends and the people in your life learn to deal just with it. They will usually figure out that this craziness is a part of you and they love you so they are in fact (even if they don't like to admit it) a little horse crazy to.

Fall Trail Ride

Crunch, crunch, crunch, leaves rustle under me as I ride quietly through the woods. I love this time of year. Fall is the perfect season for me. Not to hot, not to cold, and no bugs well hardly any I have to add as a fly lands on my nose.

My pony stops to lift her head as a deer flits gracefully over a stone wall and out of sight. It is so wonderful to be able to ride. it is one of the most amazing feelings.

I think to myself of the many things horses have taught me in the nine years I have ridden them. They have taught me patience and trust, they have given me confidence, but they always keep me humble. i smile when I think of the times when I was feeling full of myself and got bucked off. They are very humorous and they make me laugh. They have been some of my best teachers. I guess I really am horse crazy.

My pony nickers and it brings me back to the present and out of my memories. i realize that we are almost home. I reach down and give my pony a hug. There is nothing like a good trail ride. "I love you sweet pony" I whisper. These are the moments I will remember forever.

Heart

I talked to a friend just the other day who’s got lots of opinions and plenty to say.

We discussed what we both like to see in a horse His requirements and mine were

different of course… He likes a clean throatlatch and a long skinny neck, and prefers

that their hocks are set close to the deck. Short backs and hard feet and clean

slopin’ shoulder, and a gaskin that looks like it swallered a boulder. He likes a

short face and a big ol’soft eye, and says these are the horses he’s likely to buy.

And when he’d completed his lengthy discourse,on all of the attributes of the quality

horse. He asked my opinion, and where do I start? And I said that I….just want

horses with heart. I said I want heart above all the other. I don’t care if he’s

Smart Little Lena’s full brother. Or just how much money that his grandmother won,

or whether he’s roan, palomino or dun. But give me a horse with some grit and some

try and some heart and some guts and that’s one that I’ll buy. And I’ve found it’s

the same with a woman or man…. The good ones won’t quit you when the shit hits the

fan
